![]() Aynsley Lister (Solo) Thursday September 25th
Next Here: TBC
Aynsley has never been an artist to reheat the music of yesteryear. Influenced from an early age by the 60’s RnB era, Lister takes these key elements and mixes them with a more current and melodic lyrical approach. He is one of very few artists playing rocking blues with a modern edge -tangible, heartfelt, soul searching and full of fine songwriting; played with passion and vitality. His hard hitting rhythms and guitar work are reminiscent of a young Clapton. Since signing to Ruf Records, Lister has recorded four solo studio albums, and two live albums – one solo acoustic and one along with a live DVD for Germanys ROCKPALAST TV show. He has sold over 75,000 records and now headlines many of the major festivals throughout Europe where he has played alongside blues legends such as Buddy Guy, John Mayall, and Robert Cray aswell as big name pop artists such as Bryan Adams and Fun Lovin’ Criminals. His recorded work has seen him working with Producers Jim Gaines (Santana, SRV) and Greg Haver (Manic Street Preachers, Catatonia) In more recent times 2006 saw Lister recording in Clarksdale, Mississippi and Memphis Tennessee where he worked again with Jim Gaines on the Ruf Records collaboration ‘Pilgrimage’. With Gaines producing Lister debut for the label in 1999, it was almost 7 years to the month that they had previously worked together. In September of that year his album ‘Everything I Need’ was released stateside in preparation for this years debut tour. UPSIDE DOWN is Lister’s fourth studio album and his first to contain all originals. Every aspect and quality that his fans have now come to expect is there, from the raunchy guitar, the melodic voice to the infectious songs but to simply pronounce this release another worthwhile effort would be an injustice indeed: The result is his strongest, boldest and most compelling album to date that could quite easily crossover into the mainstream |

Q. When did you first take an interest in music? A. I've always loved music having grown up in a musical family. My dad plays guitar and sings, and my grandad plays piano. My brother Lance and I made our debut in a local folk club when I was 15 and Lance only 12 and we've been performing ever since. Q. What inspires you to write music? A. Everything! Mainly I write to express my feelings and emotions, so people and places are a huge source of inspiration for me. You can find inspiration in everything if you look hard enough. Q. What are your musical ambitions? A. As with all artists I want to touch peoples hearts, inspire thought, and give a little joy to others. The thing I love most about music is that it's like a universal language, and has the power to move everyone. Where would we be without it? |

![]() Charlotte Cottham
Next Here: TBC
fter what feels like a lifetime of manufactured ‘music’, one may find them self truly daunted when faced with genuine talent. This fact no less true for Charlotte Cottam; a truly original singer, songwriter and instrumentalist based in Nottingham, England. Charlotte offers an invigorating alternative to a music scene already bloated by over styled clones. One may be forgiven for thinking a native of Sheffield may choose not to write about the lighter side of life however with Charlotte, the opposite is true. Songs filled with stories of hope, faith and optimism truly inspire and it is hard to find someone whom can’t relate to these tuneful tales on one level or another. Drawing her inspiration from the likes of Eva Cassidy and Joni Mitchell to Bob Dylan and Jeff Buckley, it would be difficult for even the most battle hardened of critics to separate Charlotte’s tracks from those of her aforementioned influences based on quality alone. Charlotte’s originality is a breathtakingly refreshing affair and with the backing of her band-the affectionately titled ‘The Charlotte Cottam Quartet’- her songs take on a whole new relevance when performed live. Although a relative newcomer, Charlotte Cottam is a regular feature on the East Midlands live music scene. In the last two years, Charlotte has ensured a fine balance between meeting the demand for her live performances and honing her ever-growing armoury of songs to perfection as well as writing new tracks. As a result Charlotte has established a loyal, solid fan base ever present at her highly sort after live performances. With record and management companies sitting up and taking notice, It’s not a case of ‘if’ but simply ‘when’ Charlotte gets the recognition she deserves, in the meantime, put her on your list |

![]() Dave Arcari
Next Here: TBC
SLIDE guitarist & songwriter Dave Arcari is best known as frontman of alt.blues band Radiotones which has three internationally-acclaimed albums under it’s belt. His debut solo EP Blue Country Steel was launched during a nine-night run of shows at Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This was followed by two CD EP releases on Buzz Records – Something old, something borrowed (BRS012006), and Something new, something blue (BRS022006) . Arcari’s first full-length solo album Come With Me (BRS032006) was released in 2007. CDs, t-shirts etc are all available to buy at www.davearcari.com A series of shows with Seasick Steve and the mighty Alabama3 (by personal request from the band), gigs with Son of Dave and Jon Spencer and a summer 2005 tour in Estonia (including headline slots at the Augustibluus Festival) have now established Arcari as a formidable international solo performer and attracting a media reputation as a ’hell-raising National guitar madman’. Arcari’s growing reputation in the UK was endorsed in Spring 2007 when he was asked to put music to Robert Burns’ (Scotland’s national poet) poem Parcel of Rogues for a BBC Scotland special to mark 30 years of the Act of Union between Scotland and England. He also presented the entire programme, interviewing many high-profile political figures, musicians and historians along the way. In 1996 he quit his first proper band role as guitarist with Summerfield Blues (which won the Alexis Korner memorial trophy for ’Scottish Blues Band of the Year’ at Edinburgh International Blues fest in 2003 - the same year the band released it’s debut, and only, CD album Devil & the Freightman) to concentrate on his new found National steel guitar. It wasn’t long, though, before he was joined by harmonica player Jim Harcus and the intended solo career went by the wayside as Radiotones started to form and evolved into the force it is today. With overseas engagements and opportunities calling from all directions, Dave is now in a position to fill obligations that are either unsuitable for a full electric line-up or are, for whatever reason, impractical for Radiotones. Radiotones and Dave’s solo work will continue to develop together along with his part in the Cash-inspired Union Avenue. Dave’s solo show is also part of Acoustic Mayhem - an occassional two-way touring package which also features Lee Patterson So while the electric Nationals and Marshall stack are on the back burner for Dave’s solo appearances, his hard-hitting gravel-laden vocals and slashing bottleneck steel guitar make for an aggressive, dynamic blues-based sound that owes as much to punk, rockabilly and trash country as pre-war Delta blues. "... a pertinent reminder that British people do backwoods hoedowns as well as anyone. By some bizarre accident, Dave Arcari¹s bluesy growl owes as much to Long John Silver as it does to Big Bill Broonzy." BANG Magazine "There’s no fleet-finger twiddlage here, just blasting bottleneck riddims and Arcari’s scary Captain Beefheart vocal. It’s the original blues message - drink, be merry, fall over. Hurrah!" GUITAR Magazine "Dave Arcari¹s gravel ’n’ whiskey delivery falling midway between Tom Waits and Alabama 3’s Larry Love, relayed over a backdrop that variously recalls Slim Harpo, Leadbelly and Vincent Gallo." ![]() Fat Digester
Next Here: 08 June 2008
Fat Digester need no introduction to Nottingham's hardcore soul/funk/jazz/dub fans. The ten piece band love to mix up a healthy dose of funky sounds with a bit of rap thrown in and a brass section to die for. They have already won plaudits from legendary jazz man Courtney Pine after an appearance on TV's Xposure and expect bigger things on the horizon from them. Their sound defies categorisation so you will just have to check them out for yourself, but you an expect a rollicking good night out. Not to be missed. ![]() Gren Bartley
Next Here: TBC
Gren Bartley's music is both contemporary and heavily rooted in old blues and folk songs. Whilst the first thing you'll hear is his virtuosity on guitar, it is his mature vocals and poetically crafted lyrics that ensure the longevitiy of this young musician's career. His first demo CD released in 2005 titled "Detalina" received fantastic reviews across the country. His second CD "e°g°" with fiddle sensation Tom Kitching, led to a record deal with folk scene stalwarts Fellside Records. The duo now works with agents Emerging Music, and with the release of their first album "Rushes" the future is looking bright. Gren's solo work is still going strong with a succession of bookings and a new solo album around the corner. With a string of radio and television performances, It will not be long before Gren is a major force on the scene. "A phenomenal young guitarist and singer.... This chap is definitely going to set the acoustic world alight" (The Real Music Club) "Gren Bartley is being hailed as the new Richard Thompson and his performances have confirmed him as the best new act of the year." (The Musician, Leicester). "Bartley proves to be an accomplished songwriter, with a restful voice that lulls its way into the mind and heart." -Allmusic.com |

In 1973, Jan Ackerman was universally acclaimed for his work with the Dutch prog-rock band Focus. He even topped the influential Melody Maker poll ahead of Eric Clapton.Ackerman left Focus in 1976 and pursued a solo career, but it wasn't until 1997 that he was enticed back to the UK for two gigs as part of a major international guitar festival. Jan is master of a wide range of guitar styles, and of course he is no stranger to the joys of improvisation. Greatly respected by fellow musicians, in the past year Jan has performed with the legendary harmonica player Toots Thielemans, with Scotty Moore and DJ Fontana (ex-Elvis band) and Ice-T. |

![]() Josco Stephan

became acquainted with the music of Django Reinhardt by pure chance. On a tape given to me by my uncle there was, apart from the usual rock and pop mixes, Djangos "Minor Swing." I had never heard anything like that before. In spite of the miserable quality of the recording, I could sense that this was the music of a genius. Some time later, my uncles record collection revealed a whole Django-album. Since this day I have been hopelessly infected by the Django-virus! Nevertheless, the first musical steps I took were miles away from anything I´m doing today. I grew up with the Beatles, Santana and similar idols of rock- and pop-music. As a child, I was fascinated by anything musical and started taking lessons in classical guitar. As a teenager, my interests naturally changed, and the rock/pop influence resurfaced. I continued with the guitar by method of self-education. When I noticed that I wasn´t bad at improvising, I had my first contact with jazz-music and listened to George Benson and Attila Zoller. My baby-steps on the path of Gypsy Swing resembled a stumbling into foreign territory! All other musical styles had come to me easily, but Django presented completely new technical challenges. There weren´t any teachers specialized in this kind of music, and nobody in my family played the Django-style. In the end, there was nothing to be done but self-education, which was really hard work. Through constant and persistant practising, I was able to develop a technique which enabled me to play the way I do today. One thing I have learned in the course of my career is that one should never deny or renounce ones roots. Although I wanted to play like all the great Django-heirs, I didn´t want to forget my other influences. I recognized that the "secret of my success" was not sounding like a copy of Django Reinhardt but having an own way of playing: one in which Gypsy Swing meets other styles and where traditional pieces have a voice as well as my own compositions. This is what I am proud of, and what I wish to do in the future is to continue developing my own "voice" on the guitar and as a composer. |

![]() Lightnin: Willie & The Poorboys (USA)
Next Here: TBC
Friday June 13th Originally from Texas, this bluesman's years of steady gigging have given him as much polish as his performance. He is tall, with an expressive face, piercing eyes, and the kind of confident all-American swagger that allows you to walk up to total strangers on the street and introduce yourself. Lightnin' Willie and the Poorboys are by no means destitute. In fact the musical vein they mine is rich indeed. They steer away from dry academia and combine a seductive exchange of swinging Blues and R&B with a hint of Rockabilly. A lively, interactive, face-to-face approach to their music has had audiences waving their banner throughout the United States and Europe for over ten years. ![]() Lucie Diamond
Next Here: TBC
2007 has been a whirlwind of record-breaking success for LUCIE DIAMOND with the release of a hit album, nominations for Album of the Year and several other categories, number one hit singles, front cover features and rave reviews in International magazines, radio airplay in up to 60 countries, several headline-hitting trips to Nashville and acclaimed shows around the world attracting standing ovations. Her profile and credibility also helped attract such superstars as Delbert McClinton and Albert Lee to be in her corner. In July 2007, Lucie became the first British artist to headline to 40,000 people in France at the biggest country festival in Europe, and celebrated the release of her debut album "I Wanna Be Rich" on the same day. This year, UK-based Lucie has toured and travelled to USA several times, France, Dubai and the Middle East, Belgium, the UK, South Africa and Mozambique among other places. Lucie and her UK band have performed to many thousands of people to glowing reviews and her sold out acoustic shows too. She was appointed an Ambassador for the UK-based humanitarian organisation the Mineseeker Foundation, and the South African-based Sole of Africa, whose patrons include Nelson Mandela, Queen Noor of Jordan, Sir Richard Branson and movie star Brad Pitt. Lucie spent much of September and October in South Africa and Mozambique on a fact-finding mission and part of the filming of several TV documentaries for US and world-wide broadcast. Despite her hectic touring and work schedule, Lucie always finds the time to help causes close to her heart. As an extremely premature baby herself, Lucie is a "celebrity supporter" for the national charity BLISS, who are the main premature baby care charity in the UK. She also helps other causes, privately. In June she was invited by the prestigious CMA to fly to the USA and represent the UK at their annual CMA Global Artist Party, to kick off the CMA festival. Lucie’s set attracted VIPs to see her show, and she won deserved rave reviews from all those attending the full-house event in downtown Nashville. British-born Lucie is the current European Artist of the Year and current Female Vocalist of the Year, after she swept the boards at the annual European CMA country music awards in Spain in the summer of 2006. Winning 3 of her 4 nominations - more awards than any other artist , and the sole Brit’ to win an award - with Dolly Parton just snatching the 4th, Lucie beat Dolly, Faith Hill and Gretchen Wilson to win "Female Vocalist." Judges also decided she was worthy of ECMA "Future Star" Award. Her 6th single release, the title track from her CD "I Wanna Be Rich" was released in September and immediately struck a chord with radio DJs across Europe and Australia, getting heavily playlisted and in consistent demand from listeners. So much so, Lucie made history by being the very first British female artist to hit the number spot in all 3 Hotdisc country charts at the same time - and stayed there for 2 weeks. She spent 8 consecutive weeks at number one in the British country artist chart and is in the running for an award if that run is not beaten by another artist before the end of January. Described as "a cross between LeAnn Rimes and Joss Stone" by the UK’s most read daily newspaper The Sun, who also call Lucie "The UK’s number one country music export." The stunning 5’ 2", blonde vocal powerhouse has more than made her mark and placed British country on the global map, since blasting onto the international country music scene at the start of 2005, with her headline-grabbing debut single, “That’s What I Like About You”, featuring Grammy-winning guitar legend Albert Lee. A huge hit on radio world-wide, spending a record 10 consecutive weeks at 1 in the British country chart and reaching 5 in the prestigious European CMA chart. In just 2 years, she scored 5 major hits in the main European CMA country chart and airplay in up to 60 countries. Norway’s Arly Karlsen dueted on Lucie’s first number one record. Rock and roll stars The Jets played on her 4th single - also a chart topper. Lucie Diamond is the ONLY British country artist to have 2 consecutive number ones in the main European country chart - plus a 5 & 2 & 7 - and all this in little over a year! Lucie wowed audiences in the UK, USA, Denmark, Norway and Berlin in 2005 & 2006. In April 2006 she won new fans when she opened for Live Aid star Paul Young, at his request, at a sold-out London show. In May 2006, she visited Nashville for the first time and was overwhelmed with the response to her live shows. Lucie also wrote with some big name songwriters for her debut CD, was in big demand from the media and asked to give private showcase acoustic performances to magazines, radio stations, record labels and major music business executives. She also performed an emotional private show to the children, parents and staff at the Vanderbilt hospital. Lucie revisited the USA in October and into November 2006. She was invited to make a 2nd visit to the world famous Bluebird Cafe, to sing her own songs - along with many more prestigious gigs in Music City that month. All very well attended, thanks to major press and media coverage of her visit, inc the national ’paper The Tennessean. Lucie’s management arranged a private "by invitation only" industry showcase for music biz VIPs, at the prestigious Nashville venue 12th & Porter, following many requests by record labels and Music Row executives after her sizzling Nashville debut in May. Platinum-selling country star Jason Aldean loaned Lucie his full band for the showcase set, and a US film crew captured the event for a global broadcast. Over 150 music industry VIPs, including 8 record labels were in attendance and Lucie won a standing ovation and rave reviews. She was back in Nashville in May and June 2007, by invitation of the powerful CMA for their Global Artist Party - snapped up after they spotted Lucie at her own showcase the year before. A record 800+ attended the CMA event and the "house full" signs went up early. She was the only female artist on a bill with 7 male country artists from Australia, Canada and Ireland, to a triumphant response. She was backed by Pam Tillis’ band, led by famed producer Mark Moffat. Lucie also recorded her latest songs on that US visit, to finish off her long-awaited debut CD "I Wanna Be Rich," songs co-written with the biggest names in that town on previous trips. Of the 12 tracks on "I Wanna Be Rich," Lucie co-wrote 4 of them. The haunting ballad "I Wish I Could Rewrite The Ending," based on a true story from Lucie’s life in the UK countryside, and co-written with Rachel Thibodeau who penned a current hit for Martina McBride. Lucie also wrote "Read My Lips" with UK writer Catherine Rushton. "My Ex True Love" with Bat McGrath, who writes for Kenny Rogers and Wynonna among other big country stars. "Don’t Mess Me Up," with Nashville writer Brent Anderson who is signed to Garth Brooks’ management, Major Bob Publishing. The highlight of her time in the studio on Music Row was a duet with Grammy winner Delbert McClinton, track 7 on her new CD. Delbert having previously joined superstars Tanya Tucker, Martina McBride and Bonnie Raitt on duets. "Lucie Diamond is a breath of fresh air, like a cool breeze on a parched face. She’s an amazingly talented beautiful young woman. She can’t miss! Her debut album is a piece of magic, and I’m happy to be a part of it." Delbert McClinton - July 2007 ----------------------------------------- She was once again in demand from the media, including a BBC Radio interview live from Nashville to the UK, which included 2 live songs sung by Lucie and accompanied by her Music City acoustic guitarist. And while in the USA she revisited the world famous Bluebird cafe for her 3rd show there - this time as guest of legendary songwriter Kent Blazy (If Tomorrow Never Comes etc with Garth Brooks.) This time a "standing room only" appearance. It’s been a busy, successful and exciting year for Lucie, and looks set to be an even busier and exciting 12 months ahead, with her diary already filling up for headline shows and major appearances. In January her latest single, the 7th to be released so far, will be released to radio across Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and North America. The beautiful ballad "I Wish I Could Rewrite The Ending" which was co-written by Lucie and taken from her album "I Wanna Be Rich." In February 2008, Lucie and her band will headline the UK Country Radfio Awards at Lakeside, Surrey and then the annual Country Music Messe in Berlin. In late Feb and March she is back to Nashville for shows, co-writes and a major radio show appearance. August 2008 she will headline the Visagino Country Festival in a sport’s stadium in Lithuania - with her full UK band - to many thousands and filmed for national TV broadcast to around 4 million people. In September she is booked to headline a country festival in France. There are also plans for a tour of New Zealand. Lucie is currently in rehearsals with an exciting brand new UK band line-up, and a brand new set ahead of her 2008 shows. With 2 new guitarists, keyboard player and drummer joining her regular bassist. The band all have a huge musical pedigree and bring a dynamic edge to Lucie’s exciting live show. "Country meets blues meets soul meets LUCIE DIAMOND & HER BAND. Unique." International roots and country music magazine, Maverick ran a sparkling review of Lucie’s show at a recent UK country festival, in their October 2007 issue, giving a clue as to what to expect from her full band gigs in 2008. She will also be touring her acclaimed acoustic set too, a chance to really hear Lucie’s soul-drenched country vocal skills where there is nowhere to hide with just an acoustic guitar for company.......... Maverick magazine - issue 63 - October 2007 Live Reviews South Will Rise Again Festival "..........talking of heat, next on stage was the hottest property of British country music today, Lucie Diamond. This girl is the real deal. She has it all. The looks, the voice, a massive stage presence |

Nigel Beck. A Leicestershire based 6 & 12 string fingerstyle acoustic guitar player. My main influences are Leo Kottke, Pierre Bensusan, Antonio Forcione and Eric Roche. I love the propulsive flowing nature of Leo kottke's playing and Pierre Bensusan's beautifully crafted music with its classical/jazz/celtic feel are a delight. Antonio Forcione and Eric Roche also inspire me with thier imagination and flair for composition and style. These are but a few of the many players I admire and learn from. The last 12 months have seen me return to performing in acoustic clubs - in fact anywhere where they'll have me and I'm hoping this year to put myself on the acoustic map. My demo recordings are here for your pleasure, I hope you like them. The demo was done recently with the help of my friend John Ablitt who kindly donated his time, expertise & studio - many thanks John. A CD is in the pipeline but being a perfectionist takes time!!If you're ever at any of my performances please come & say hello. |

Here's what other people say about us... ‘One of these Songs is about You’… “A collection of softly spoken acoustic numbers and more upbeat pieces with tracks like 'Giving Up' and 'Time on my Mind' standing out. Its like that CD you get 4 tracks into at a mates house before heading down the road to get your own copy. “ Loughborough Echo June 2005 "One of our favourate bands. Sweet harmonies, clever songwriting. A very very talented band. " Running Horse Music Pub, Nottingham "Northern Quarter are a band who have quickly established themselves at the top of the tree as far as local acoustic music is concerned… Driven by their lynchpin guitarist singer and songwriter Gerry Farrow aided by fellow singer and songwriter Vicky Warburton, the 5 piece have become a popular draw at the town’s acoustic venues… As ever the set was a mix of covers and their own material, which included some new songs of which ‘Lost’ was a notable highlight. Vicky and Gerry are a great pair like a seasoned premiership strike partnership, while behind them the band don’t put a foot wrong. It makes for a good night." Loughborough Echo, Friday 10th March 2006 "This band are really making a name for themselves. Superb vocals, brilliant arrangements. One of the smoothest original acoustic bands I have ever come across" Running Horse Music Pub, Nottingham - April 2007 http://www.myspace.com/northernquarteracoustic |

Pierre’s music gives me the shakes. No other guitarist shares his strange gifts of sophistication, accessibility and downright joy. Even at its most complex, Pierre’s music only needs ears to be enjoyed." Leo Kottke "Listening to Pierre Bensusan is rejuvenating. Beside his extraordinary touch and tone, the notes and melody appeal directly to the tender side of our human nature." Steve Vai "One of the truly gifted musicians of our time - he plays the guitar as if it were the very soul of himself." George Winston "Bensusan gently lures his punters into a world where the sky is not just a different hue, bit an entirely different texture, and fulfills a different function too. Instead of offering a roof on his world, it’s simply a springboard to an entirely different plane where three chords and the truth simply don’t cut it. With the entire audience on side, Bensusan’s inveterate pursuit of music’s less navigated terrain is still a show-stopper - and resonate long after he sounded his final note. |

Steve is without doubt one of the finest Acoustic guitar players in the country. Originally from Hull, Steve Pinnock is a mesmerising and truly innovative guitarist to watch. Influenced by the likes of Antonio Forcione, Al De Meola and Tuck Andress he has stretched the potential of the acoustic guitar beyond normal boundaries to turn it into an instrument exploding with jaw-dropping harmonic and percussion sound. In recent years he has led the lounge music combo Mood Indigo based in Nottingham where he has astonished listeners with his ability to play the bass parts to jazz classics while soloing the guitar over the top. Having played Montreux Jazz Festival and provided the original score for some of playwright John Godber's productions, Steve has a passion for music and recently founded the highly successful Drop in the Ocean music event which had its second outing this year in Nottingham. Steve is currently recording an album of original material called The Flow to showcase his talent. |

The arcane were raised in Nottingham on a playground diet of grunge and britpop. A decade later they formed a band with a sound that straddles the transatlantic gap between these two era-defining scenes whilst remaining true to their local roots in the city. |

![]() The Ian Siegal Band Thursday May 15th
Next Here: TBC
It has been said that had Siegal been around in the sixties he would today be accorded the same reverence as artists such as Van Morrison, Joe Cocker and Eric Clapton. Instead, he is a child of the seventies who dropped out of art college in the late eighties to go busking in Germany. From the streets of Berlin Siegal progressed to clubs around Nottingham, then to London and ultimately to major stages around Europe. Two successive European tours (2003/4) opening for ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman's Rhythm Kings brought him to the attention of a wider audience. This was followed by UK tours as a duo with Big Bill Morganfield (son of Muddy Waters, the man who Siegal calls The Blues God). During this time Siegal was also capturing the hearts of audiences in Holland, Belgium, Austria and Hungary. In 2005 he topped the Soul/Blues/Jazz charts in Holland and in 2006 he debuted in the USA, appearing at major clubs and the largest music festival on the West Coast. “If my Daddy were alive today he'd say “That's my boy!” BIG BILL MORGANFIELD (son of Muddy Waters) Born in the deep south (of England!) in 1971, Ian's earliest musical memories are of the likes of Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis and Chuck Berry. This led him into a life-long passion for the Blues and all of its various branches, and most of all, the inimitable Muddy Waters. “I cannot remember not knowing about Muddy Waters, even as a child,” says Ian. “His music and that of Howlin' Wolf have been a huge influence on me.” At 16 he began to roadie occasionally for his cousin's band and one night, quite unexpectedly, he was asked to sing. The result was a blown-away audience and a delighted (and rather surprised) young vocal talent with a career ahead of him. It was 2 years later that he picked up a guitar and taught himself to play. At 20 he dropped out of art college and travelled to Berlin, busking for a living. This is where he says his playing dramatically improved as, if he didn't make money, he didn't eat! By the time he returned to England he knew that a career in music was the only one for him. A visit to Nottingham resulted in a five-year stay and Ian's first band became one of the most popular on the local music scene. He quickly showed himself to be a gifted songwriter with a deep understanding of tradition, but with an eye on the future. Moving to London to further his career was inevitable and Ian was soon an established part of the London Blues community. That's where today's Ian Siegal band was born. Many gigs followed, along with a number of appearances with American artists. He has also sung with other bands, notably The Lee Sankey Group and can be heard on the album "Tell Me There's a Sun". Appearances on larger festival stages followed - such as Edinburgh, Lugano, Peer, North Sea Jazz – establishing him as one of the most natural, exciting and vibrant talents on the scene today. Each year the stages get bigger, but what sticks most in Ian's mind is his guest appearance with 92 year old Pinetop Perkins and some of the other remaining members of Muddy Waters' band. This was at London's Jazz Café in 2005 to a packed house. Then at a festival in Norway, in a role reversal, these legends of post-war Blues spontaneously joined Ian on stage for what turned into a memorable hour long set. |

![]() Thomas Leeb
Next Here: TBC
Austrian born Thomas Leeb plays a style he calls 'the bastard child of acoustic fingerstyle'. This style owes as much to percussive techniques as traditional fingerstyle guitar as his tunes are usually punctuated by slaps, pops and beats. Adding to the overall effect is his frequent use of ringing harmonics. The resulting blur of busy hands and fingers has to be seen to be believed. His repertoire consists of self-penned numbers, traditional tunes and occasional covers such as Guns 'n' Roses' Sweet Child O' Mine and Bob Marley's I Shot The Sheriff. Leeb released his first album, the now out of print Reveller, as a precocious 17 year old. However, his unique style didn't come into full force until his 1999 album Riddle. He has since released two further albums Spark in 2004 and Upside Down in 2005. Along the way he has picked up a number of influential fans such as Eric Roche who was his guitar teacher, "for about five minutes and then I heard him play" and Guthrie Govan who thinks that "what Thomas does on an acoustic guitar probably shouldn't be legal.". Next Here: TBC
Tony Cox was born on the 24th of January , 1954 in a tiny mining town called Redcliff in Zimbabwe. At the age of nine he began playing the guitar, having been taught Hawaiian guitar by Portuguese musician and friend Archie Perreira, and thus mapped out the life pattern which now sees him as one of South Africa's finest acoustic guitarists. It was in the folk clubs of the early 70's, making his first concert appearance at the Four Winds Folk Club in Port Elizabeth. During this time he experimented with various combinations of musicians, but began to focus on the art of solo guitar playing. This was however just the start of what would become a life filled with countless performances both at home and abroad. It was during this time that Tony met fellow guitarist by the name of Steve Newman, who like Tony was training in the nuances of solo guitar playing. |
